The Family of William Patrick Malone

* The following information was compiled, in large part, by Joseph Vincent Malone and Michael Vincent Malone. Joseph Vincent Malone (born Dec. 6,1921, died January 25, 2001) was the grandson of Francis Henry Malone (born 1865) and the great grandson of William Patrick Malone. Michael Vincent Malone (born Sept. 27, 1964) is the great grandson of Joseph Vincent Malone (born 1873) and the great great grandson of William Patrick Malone. Francis Henry Malone (born 1865) and Joseph Vincent Malone (born 1873) were brothers.


William Patrick Malone was born 1842/3 in Ireland (this is an assumption) and died December 26th 1894 at the age of 52. He is buried in Old Cathedral cemetery. It is not yet known when he arrived in America but it is thought to be 1861. William used his middle name Patrick on all the birth and baptismal certificates as well as his naturalization papers. He became a naturalized citizen of the United States on Sept. 25, 1866. He settled in a tenement building at 2103-2113 Filbert Street somewhere from 1865 through 1873+. This area today is part of JFK Blvd. In that dwelling among other Irish immigrants was a family by the name of McCormick's, Margaret and her brother Francis Henry McCormick (they were twins born 1846 and the children of Francis and Mary A. McCormick, born 1822). William Patrick married Margaret McCormick (daughter of Francis and Mary A. McCormick) William Patrick was a painter by trade. William Patrick Malone and Margaret McCormick had 9 known children. William L. Malone born c.1865, Francis Henry Malone born April 20, 1865, Alice Malone born September 22, 1866, Mary Anne Malone born April 14, 1868, John Malone born August 3, 1869, Charles Malone born July 21, 1871, Joseph Vincent Malone born January 24, 1873, Alfred P. Malone born c.1875, and the youngest, Robert J. Malone born c1878. They were all baptized in the Cathedral Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul Church, 1723 Race Street, Philadelphia, PA, 19103. The Malone family moved throughout South Philadelphia in their younger days. From 1875 till about 1878 they lived at 2136 Catherine Street, till 1888 they lived at 1926 Kimball St. About 1889 they moved to 2018 Ellsworth St and then later to 1938 Ellsworth St until 1896.

Francis Henry Malone
(Born April 20, 1865/ died June 1, 1939)

Francis H. Malone was the eldest son of William Patrick and Margaret McCormick Malone. He married his first wife Margaret Newman in 1889 and moved to 311 Titan Street. Francis H. Malone was a salesman and later foreman for Wanamaker and Brown Clothing Store. Francis H. Malone and Margaret Newman Malone had 7 children, Francis I. Malone, Regina Malone, Helen Malone, Florence Malone, Margaret Malone, Joseph V. Malone, and Alice Malone. He moved his young family to 920 Tree St. till 1899, moved to 946 Jackson till 1905, moved to 1118 Porter St. until 1915. In 1916 he moved to2437 South 20th St.. He later married Mary (last name unknown) at the Church of St. Monica.


Francis I. Malone (born February 1, 1890/died October 12, 1987) was the eldest grandson of William Patrick Malone and Margaret McCormick Malone, and the eldest son of Francis H. Malone and Margaret Newman Malone. He married Marie Kelly on October 15, 1915, at the Church of the Nativity B.V.M.. They moved to the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia to 2602 Ann Street in 1916. Francis I. Malone rose from Postal Clerk, to Senior Postal Clerk, to Assistant Supervisor and finally Postmaster of Frankford Station. He was an active member of Nativity B.V.M. Church and the parish and diocesan St. Vincent de Paul Society as Vice-President. Francis I. Malone and Marie Kelly Malone had 9 children, Francis I. Malone Jr., Vincent B. Malone, Thomas P. Malone, Joseph V. Malone, John and Bernard Malone (twins), Madeline Malone, Edward A. Malone, and Dolores R. Malone. Francis I. Malone died October 12, 1987. His wife Marie Kelly Malone died April 18, 1965. They are both interred in the New Cathedral Cemetery.

Francis I. Malone Jr. (Born October 16, 1916/died 1987) eldest son of Francis I Malone and Marie Kelly Malone married Louise ?
Francis served in the Philippines during World War II. They had five children, Francis I. Malone III, Ruth Malone, Ann Malone, Robert and (twin) Malone (twin died in child birth).

Vincent B. Malone (born 1918/died March 14, 1988), second son of Francis I and Marie Malone married Anne Potts. Vincent served in World War II. They had four children, Vincent Malone, Gerald Malone, Bernard and John (twins) Malone.

Thomas P. Malone (born November 25, 1919/died 1998) third son of Francis I and Marie Malone married Mary Fenerty. Thomas served in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. They had nine children, Thomas P. Malone Jr., Eileen Malone, Gerard Malone, Eugene Malone, Kevin Malone, Dennis Malone, Joseph Malone, James Malone, and Lawrence Malone.

Joseph Vincent Malone (born December 6, 1921/died January 25, 2001) fourth son of Francis I and Marie Malone married Pauline Brown. Joseph served in the US Navy during World War II. They had nine children, Joseph V. Malone Jr., Maureen Malone, Bernadette Malone, Francis I. Malone, Dolores Malone, Margaret Mary Malone, John Malone, Eugene Malone, and Bernard Malone.

John and Bernard Malone TWINS (born January 23, 1924) fifth and sixth sons of Francis I. and Marie Malone. John served in support of Armed Service during World War II. John died in 1968. Bernard entered into the service of the Church celebrating his 50th Anniversary as a Priest on June 3, 2000.

Madeline Malone (born February 25, 1926/died ?) was the oldest daughter of Francis I. and Marie Malone. She married Thomas O'Connor. They had one child, Thomas P. O'Connor. Madeline later married Sam Newman.

Edward Malone (born March 7, 1928/ died June 17, 1999) was the seventh son of Francis I. Malone and Marie Malone. He was the sexton of Nativity Church for a number of years.

Dolores Malone (born March 20, 1930/ died 1992) was the youngest child of Francis I. Malone and Marie Malone. She married Don Consentino and had one child, Vincent B. Consentino.

Regina Malone (born 1892/ died ?) was the second child of Francis H. Malone and Margaret Newman Malone. She married James Stack. They had no children.

Helen Malone (born ?/ died ?) was the third child of Francis H. Malone and Margaret Newman Malone. She married Harry Ennis. They had five children, Harry Ennis Jr., Regina Ennis, William Ennis, Francis Ennis, and Loretta Ennis.

Florence Malone (born ?/ died?) was the fourth child of Francis H. Malone and Margaret Newman Malone. She married John McGuiggan and later upon his death married ? She had five children by McGuiggan, Florence McGuiggan, John McGuiggan, William McGuiggan, Joseph McGuiggan, and Anna Mae McGuiggan.

Margaret Malone (born ?/ died?) was the fifth child of Francis H. Malone and Margaret Newman Malone. She married Charles Pasquale. They had no children.

Joseph V. Malone (born ?/ died January 2, 1966) was the sixth child of Francis H. Malone and Margaret Newman Malone. He never married and had no children.

Alice Malone (born ?/ died ?) was the seventh child of Francis H. Malone and Margaret Newman Malone. She married John McMullen. They had two children, Alice McMullen, and Margaret McMullen.

Alice was the second child of William Patrick Malone and Margaret McCormick Malone. She married James Hunt. At this point there is no other information on Alice Malone

Mary Anne was the third child of William Patrick Malone and Margaret McCormick Malone. No information found on Mary Anne Malone.

John Malone was the fourth child of William Patrick Malone and Margaret McCormick Malone. No information found on John Malone.

Charles Malone
(born July 21, 1871/ died ?)

Charles was the fifth child of William Patrick Malone and Margaret McCormick Malone. He was a cutter in the clothing business and lived most of his life with his mother and father. In 1896 he moved to 2024 Federal Street with his mother and lived there up until 1905. There is no further record of Charles.

Joseph Vincent Malone
(born January 24, 1873/ died August 1, 1933)

Joseph Vincent Malone was the youngest child of William Patrick Malone and Margaret McCormick Malone. He married Clara Higgins on September 30, 1896 at St. Charles Church. Joseph Vincent Malone was a cabinet maker and worked for ? . At the time of his death he was the oldest debt collector of the Holy Name Society of St. Gabriel's Parish. He was known to have taken second mortgages on his home in order to establish Irish immigrants into the community. He lived from 1900 until the time of his death at 1312 South 29th Street . His family continued to live in that home until 1977 when his daughters relocated to Springfield, PA. Joseph Vincent Malone and Clara Higgins Malone had six children, Clara Malone was born and died on May 18, 1897 after 4 hours, Joseph Vincent Malone Jr. was born June 18, 1899 and died 9 months later March 8, 1900, Catherine Mary Malone, Francis Joseph Malone, Margaret Mary Malone, Joseph Francis Malone.

Clara Malone and Joseph Vincent Malone Jr. were the two oldest children of Joseph V. Malone and Clara Higgins Malone. They both died in infancy and are buried in Old Cathedral Cemetery 48th & Lancaster Ave. Phila., PA. They are buried in the same lot as William Patrick Malone and Margaret McCormick Malone (Section L Range 1 Lot 17). In this lot are also buried Margaret McCormick Malone's mother Mary A. McCormick and her brother Francis H. McCormick and his wife and children. There also is an unknown member buried in this lot, Alice Marron. It is assumed that Alice Marron might possibly be the mother of Mary A. McCormick.

Catherine Mary Malone (born 1901/ died February 26, 1979) was the third child of Joseph Vincent Malone and Clara Higgins Malone. Catherine never married and spent most of her life living in the Malone family home at 1312 South 29th Street until moving to Springfield, PA in 1977. Catherine worked as an executive secretary for the Dupont Company in Wilmington, DE

Francis Joseph Malone (born 1907/died 1998) was the fourth child of Joseph Vincent Malone and Clara Higgins Malone. He attended and graduated from the Wharton School of Business in Philadelphia. He married Hannah Friel (also from the same South Philadelphia neighborhood) and they moved to Pittsburgh, PA where Francis entered the banking field and later became the president of Pittsburgh Home and Savings. He retired in ? and remained on the board of directors up until his death in 1998. They had two children, Maureen Clare Malone, and Francis Joseph Malone Jr. He is buried in Pittsburgh, PA with his wife Hannah Friel Malone


Maureen Clare Malone (born 1939) was the oldest child of Francis J. Malone and Hannah Friel Malone. She married Vincent Hart and they had two children, James Francis Hart, and Marianne Malone Hart.

Francis Joseph Malone Jr. (born January 11, 1943/died May, 1997) he was the youngest child of Francis Joseph Malone and Hannah Friel Malone. He went mostly by his nickname Bud. He attended and graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. with a degree in chemistry. He had two children, Michael Vincent Malone, and Kathleen Anne Malon. He died of a massive heart attack in Taipei, Taiwan while on business for the Dupont Company. He is buried in Chattanooga, TN

Margaret Mary Malone (born 1911/ died September 8, 1998) was the fifth child
of Joseph Vincent Malone and Clara Higgins Malone. Margaret never married and spent most of her life living in the Malone family home at 1312 South 29th Street until moving in 1977 to Springfield, PA with her sister Catherine. Margaret worked for the Federal Government.

Joseph Francis Malone (born 1915/died 1927) was the sixth child of Joseph Vincent Malone and Clara Higgins Malone. He died at the age of twelve of what was believed to be appendicitis.
