CIVIL WAR VETERAN DIES AT HIGHGATE
Philip Peter Bovat Was One of Four Brothers Who Served in 1861
HIGHGATE CENTER, FEB. 24 -
Philip Peter Bovat 89, a Civil War Veteran and long time resident of this
town died at his home here yesterday afternoon. He was born at Chambly, Quebec
and moved here at an early age. When the Civil War broke out he was one of
four brothers who enlisted in Company C, 5th United States Infantry. Two of
his brothers were killed action. He returned here after three years of service
after having been wounded twice.
On January 9, 1865, he married Ozeata Minor
of Highgate. To them were born eight sons and six daughters. Of these 13 were
later married.
Mr. Bovat leaves his widow, one sister; Mrs.
Amelia Raymond of Springfield; seven sons, Levi of Swanton, Eli of Stowe,
Louis of Enosburg, Joseph and Fred of Fairfield, and William of Springfield,
Massachusetts; four daughters Mrs. Julius Raymond of Highgate, Mrs. Louis
Cross of St. Albans, Mrs. Augustine Bachand of Fairfield, Mrs. Frank Raymond
of Morrisville; 79 grandchildren; 81 great grandchildren and two great great
grandchildren. The funeral will be held from St. Louis church here Friday
morning at 10 o'clock with burial in the Catholic Cemetery.
